Music education

Žanina started playing piano at the age of 4 in Bulgaria, continued in Croatia with a degree in performance piano solo and piano pedagogy at the Music Academy of the University in Zagreb and perfecting the skills and knowledge with master studies in performance piano solo at Musikhochschule Munich and master studies in chamber music and contemporary music at International Mozart Academy in Poland.



The first teacher was Ljiljana Petkova in Bulgaria. In Zagreb there were three: prof. Maja Careva, ‘Zlatko Baloković’ Music School, prof. Olga Detiček, ‘Vatroslav Lisinski’ Music School and College, and prof. Marija Gvozdić-Horvat, at the Zagreb Music Academy.

Two other pedagogues were very significant: prof. Vera Gornostaeva, the globally known Russian pianist and piano pedagogue as well as prof. Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, who taught Zanina during her Master studies in Germany.



Two awards at national Croatian pupils’ piano competitions (1987.;1992.);

University of Zagreb Music Academy’s Dean’s Award (1994. For a concerto performance with the Zagreb Philharmonics)

Extraordinary achievement – twice University of Zagreb Rektor’s award (1992;1995 for performances in Croatia and Japan)

City of Pakrac’ (Croatia) Golden City Award (2007.) for charity work benefiting Pakrac’ primary music school



Numerous concerts during and after the studies across Europe. Currently downsized focusing intensely on pedagogy and audience development projects.


Florens Piano Studio Project

A new initiative in which Zanina is a founder and principal teacher. Florens Piano Studio offers piano lessons, piano workshops, performances and advice to adults of all levels. Teaching in Croatian and English.



In 2014 Zanina was a member of the international jury at the international competition for amateur pianists 'Academic Andrey Stoyanov' in Sofia, Bulgaria.



Zanina was born in 1975. in Zagreb. Her parents are deaf. Her grandmother, who is no longer alive, on the maternal side was a significant figure in Zanina’s musical development. Zanina is fluent in English, German, Russian, Bulgarian and Croatian.
